Anyone who owns a piece of glass furniture will know the ease with which marks and streaks appear (especially in the presence of children!). Though you may not be able to stop all blemishes from getting there in the first place, below we have rounded up some practical tips on removing them and generally keeping your glass furniture looking great year on year:
- To prevent some of those scratches, streaks, and other noticeable wear and tear from appearing, use protective items such as coasters for drinks and place mats for plates or other decorative items. Try to store away any other items which do not need to be on the table/desk.
- For regular cleaning, a simple mix of warm water with a little washing up liquid should be fine. Alternatively, use a glass cleaner. Abrasive cleaning solutions should be avoided as these may scratch the surface. For removing tougher stuck on messes, use a spray bottle containing a solution of distilled white vinegar in water, use with it a damp cloth which has a small amount of baking soda on it.
- To dry glass surfaces, use a soft cloth. Make sure it is clean otherwise the cloth could make small scratches in the glass.
- Do not place hot objects directly onto the glass surface as these can weaken the glass. Place hot objects or objects with sharp corners (that could scratch the glass) on a mat or coaster.

That being said, quality glass furniture will be designed and made to withstand quite a lot of stress and so should be able to take normal day to day punishment (from cups or other items being dropped on to its surface, etc) without breaking. Small chips can be repaired using clear epoxy resin.
